Waterfront Renovation

Take Advantage Of Scenic Views

The waterfront home, built in the early 1900s, had been used for various purposes, most notably as a bordello. Over time, it had fallen into disrepair and become dated. The owners wanted to update both the interior and exterior appearance of the house while taking advantage of their magnificent water views.

To comply with new stricter hurricane codes, an engineered foundation was installed and strategically placed structural steel beams were added. The house was almost completely gutted to bare studs and rebuilt with an addition that practically doubled original living space. A wrap around deck complete with screened-in porch created extra rooms outside from which to enjoy scenic views.

To achieve the owners' desire for a clean contemporary look, muted wall colors and an open floor plan were used. Flooring choices of birds-eye maple, quarter-sawn oak, tile, and cork as well as custom cabinets and shelving designed and built by Oxford Builders helped define the various rooms. Large thermal panes salvaged by the owners from a nearby casino project were installed in the living room and along the curved stairwell to allow for a greater feeling of space as well as to maximize the connection with the outdoors.

Although extensive and complex in nature, this project was completed in a mere nine-month time as projected.
